VirtualBox Error: Failed to start the virtual machine
You
recently installed a kernel update to your Ubuntu Linux PC and when you
try to start your virtual machine software you receive the
following error;
I've
already encountered this problem and the solution is easy.
1. Please CLICK
HERE to
read our disclaimer before getting started. Be sure to read through
this entire article before you actually start and if you DO NOT feel comfortable performing
these steps, then STOP and
DO NOT PROCEED
any further.
2. Click OK on the error message on your desktop
and exit your VirtualBox software.
3.
Open a Terminal window by clicking menu "Applications ->
Accessories
-> Terminal" and then enter the following command at the
blinking
cursor...
sudo
/etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup
Note: You can directly copy and paste the above
command into your terminal and then press [Enter] as shown below.

4. Type your password when requested and press [Enter].
It
may take a minute or two to stop the VirtualBox kernel module,
recompile the kernel module and restart the kernel module. Then you
can launch your
VirtualBox software and start your Windows operating system to run in
the Virtual machine.
Voila! Windows and Windows software running
inside a Linux PC. Enjoy virus-proof and spy-ware proof internet
surfing and email using Linux while being able to run your
Windows-based
software inside a virtual machine. That's what is called "the best of
both worlds".
