Hardware Tip - Separate Business from Pleasure

(Please click on Legal Stuff before using this Tip of The Week.)

Have you ever wanted to keep business and personal use of your computer completely separated for tax purposes?

Have you ever wanted to have all of your own data completely separate from other family members without having to buy a whole new computer?

There is a very affordable solution which only involves buying an additional hard drive along with a mobile rack kit. Setting up a computer to use an IDE Mobile Rack Kit is just a fraction of the cost of buying a whole new computing system.

1. First you'll need to buy an additional hard drive and an IDE Mobile Rack Kit.

NOTE: The model shown comes with a security key-lock feature and includes TWO additional cooling fans to provide additional cooling for the hard drive.

2. After installing your new hard drive, you'll need to format it and install your operating system.

3. Once your operating system is installed and configured, you'll need to install the IDE Mobile Rack into your computer's case and then mount each of your hard drives into removable racks.

4. Close the removable rack cover.

5. Now that both hard drives are mounted into removable racks, slide one of the racks all the way into the IDE Mobile Rack empty bay in your computer.

6. Swing the handle down to secure the rack into place.

7. Use the key to lock the rack in place and prevent unauthorized removal.

Now you can boot your computer using the hard drive contained in this rack. When you shutdown your computer, use the key to unlock the rack prior to removal. Swing the handle up and pull the rack out and store it in a secure location. Your computer is now ready to be rebooted using the other rack-mounted hard drive.

NOTE: With the key-lock models, you MUST use the key to lock the rack in place. Otherwise, the system will not boot and you'll receive an error message.

By simply adding a second hard drive and an IDE Mobile Rack Kit with two removable racks, you can save HUNDREDS of dollars instead of buying a whole new computer and keep all of your business computing data completely separate from personal use. Or you can give your son or daughter their own hard drive without having to buy a whole new computing system!
