Setting up your SuSE Linux to connect to DSL service is easy! This
article is written specifically for clients of Bright Ideas Computing
who decide to switch from Microsoft Windows to SuSE Linux 9.1 or SuSE
Linux 9.2 and who want to subscribe to Kerrville Telephone Company DSL
service.
1. Click your KDE Start menu button and navigate to 'System -> YaST'.
2. Enter your 'root' password when prompted and click the 'Ok' button.
3. Click the 'Network Devices' option and then click on the 'Network Card'
icon.
NOTE: DO NOT use the DSL option.If you
have already tried to use the 'DSL' option then you will need to first shutdown
your 'Kinternet' process on your taskbar and select the option to 'NOT' restart
'Kinternet' when you reboot the computer. Then you'll need to select the 'DSL'
option in the dialog box shown below and delete any 'DSL' and 'Provider' entries
that may have already been setup. This will clear up your settings and give
you a clean slate to work with.

4. Your computer's ethernet card should already be detected. Click the
'Change' button.

5. Click the 'Edit' button.
6. You can use the 'DHCP' option on the resulting 'Network Address
Setup' dialog as shown below or you can set a static IP address of 10.0.0.4
along with the subnet mask of 255.255.255.0. The latter option is helpful
if you want to use multiple computers on an internal network if you want
to manually control their IP addresses.

7. Click the 'Host Name and Name Server' button. Enter '207.71.36.2'
into the 'Name Server 1' line and 'ktc.com' into the 'Domain Search 1' line and
then click the 'Ok' button. You can use multiple name servers if they are
available.

8. Click the 'Routing' button and enter the IP address of your DSL
modem into the 'Default Gateway' line. If you are using a Kerrville Telephone
Company configured Visionnet DSL modem then the IP address will most likely
be '10.0.0.2'

9. Click the 'Ok' button, the 'Next' button, and then the resulting
'Finish' button. After the network configuration settings have been written
you can click 'Close' on the YaST Control Center.
