Q. Who are you guys?
A. We are two professional computing consultants relocated to
Kerrville, Texas after many combined years of experience with Fortune
500 companies such as Digital Equipment Corporation, Microsoft, Compaq
Computer Corporation, Dow Chemical Corporation, Hewlett-Packard, and
Agilent Technologies.
Q. How can you make professional computer consulting so affordable?
A. By applying our experience and making effective use
of resources, we can offer these onsite services at rates that are
affordable and cost effective.
Q. How do you arrange to make onsite housecalls?
A. We make housecalls or onsite business visits by appointment at
times that are convenient for you. We serve the Kerrville area within a
15 mile radius from our office.
Q. What are your rates?
A. You can check out our prices at our rates page or you can contact your local Bright Ideas Consultant to discuss our rates for your particular project, repair, or upgrade.
Q. How come I've never heard of Bright Ideas Computing?
A. Bright Ideas Computing was launched on April 15, 2002, as an
independent business venture to provide affordable onsite computer
service and repair. We are not a franchise and therefore are not
beholden to anyone but you, our valued client.
Q. Are you certified?
A. Our Microsoft Certified (MCP) credentials means that we have the
skills to successfully implement Microsoft products or technologies as
part of a business solution. You can also be assured of our reputable
standing because no one affiliated with Bright Ideas Computing of Kerrville, Texas, will
call at your location unless they have been screened by SeniorChoices.
Q. Why do you charge flat rates for basic websites?
A. We charge flat rates for basic professional websites because most
clients want to know upfront how much website development is going to
cost. Some website developers will charge up to $75 per hour with an
eight hour minimum for each website. We only charge additional if you
want complex features such as site search, submission forms, or
shopping cart capabilities that require Perl, Java, or Common Gateway
Interface (CGI) scripting.
Q. What do you consider a basic website?
A. The sites listed as examples on our Websites
page are what we consider basic websites. Sites requiring Perl, Java,
or CGI scripting development will cost extra. However, we think you'd
be so pleased with the marketing and visual impact our basic sites
provide that you won't find it necessary for any whiz-bang bells,
whistles, and flash. Impatient web surfers tend to cancel slow loading
sites and move on in as little as five (5) seconds.
Q. What does it take to create a website?
A. First you must select a domain name and perform a search to make
sure it's available. If your selected name is available, then you sign
up with a domain registrar and that can cost an average of $25 per
year. Once your domain name has been registered you have to select a
host where your website pages will reside. Domain hosting can cost
anywhere from around $5 to $30 per month depending on offered features.
Finally, you contract with a web developer to have your website created
and uploaded to your hosting company.
Q. What if I already have a domain name registered?
A. Then you'll need to contact your domain registrar so that the domain address can be resolved to your hosting company.
Q. Who do you recommend for web hosting?
A. Bright Ideas Computing, of course! We can host your website and provide you with email service for your domain name.
Q. What if I don't want to perform the domain name searching, registration, and selecting a web hosting company myself?
A. We can take care of everything for you by offering a Turnkey Website Service.
Q. Why do you charge sales tax to Texas residents for website development?
A. Unfortunately, the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts
has established that certain internet related services are subject to
Texas sales tax. However, the first 20% of charges are exempt from the
sales tax.
Q. Do you repair monitors, printers or other external peripherals?
A. If you are having a problem installing your monitor, printer, or
other external peripheral device and configuring it into your operating
system, or physically connecting the cabling or replacing ink jet print
cartridges, then we can help you. Mechanical problems with monitors,
printers or other external peripherals are best addressed through their
manufacturer's warranty support or authorized service centers.
Q. Do you provide telephonic technical support?
A. No, we do not offer any telephonic technical support because of
liability issues. Just like a practicing physician, we feel
the responsible thing to do is a direct examination of your PC in order
to form a proper diagnosis and solution. All too
often, telephone support does not solve your issue and may
even exacerbate the
problem. Contact us for an onsite appointment for a proper diagnosis
and resolution of your computer problem.
Q. Will you install "copied" software for me?
A. Please do not ask us to install "copied" software for you unless it
is officially licensed and you can register it in your name. We will
install software officially recognized as freeware, shareware, or open
source. We do not install pirated software under any circumstances.
Q. Do you accept credit cards or bill for services?
A. PayPal is our authorized credit card payment processor. You can
easily make your payments by clicking the PayPal logo located at the
bottom of each of our website pages. It is not required for you to have
a PayPal account when making your payment. Please be prepared to make
payment by PayPal, personal check, money order, or cash when services
are rendered. Our technician carries less than 20 dollars in change.
