Welcome to
another issue of our weekly newsletter!
Something
for everyone.
No
one can dispute that the human brain is the greatest computer of all
time! But sometimes it requires a little nudge to grow new
cells. I also happen to
believe that hardware computers are very useful tools
which can
help to provide that nudge. That's why this
newsletter is not just full of computer-related information, but also
includes entertainment and educational items to tickle the brain cells.
There's something of interest for everyone in here so feel free to
share this issue and pass it along to your
friends and family...
What's In Here?
Lots of cool,
fun, and
informative stuff every week!
I'm dubbing this
week's issue
the Alfred
Hitchcock Edition. On
this day, August 13, 1899, Alfred
Hitchcock is born as the
son of a London poultry dealer and fruit importer. He became
an influential director of suspense films in the 1940s and
1950s and was known
for sneaking his own cameo appearance into every film. Our
Ctrl-Alt-Backspace
section includes special click-links to
transport you
to educational and informational websites
about Alfred Hitchcock.

Homeland Security: Fix your Windows
"In a rare alert, the
U.S. Department
of Homeland Security has urged Windows users to plug a potential worm
hole in the Microsoft operating system. The agency, which also runs the
United States Computer Emergency Readiness Team (US-CERT), sent out a
news release on Wednesday recommending that people apply Microsoft's
MS06-040 patch as quickly as possible. The software maker released the
"critical" fix Tuesday as part of its monthly patch cycle."

'Corpse
flower' blooms, ends smelly peak
"It was the first time
in 67 years
that the odoriferous Amorphophallus titanum bloomed in New York City.
The plant began blooming around 2 p.m. Thursday at the Brooklyn Botanic
Garden. By that evening, it was giving off its signature pungent odor,
a smell akin to rotten eggs or garbage left out overnight, that
emanated well into Friday morning. But by Friday afternoon, visitors
had to get right next to the unusual flower to take the dreadful whiff."
