Welcome to another issue of our weekly newsletter!
Something for everyone.

No one can dispute that the human brain is the greatest computer of all time! But sometimes it requires a little nudge to grow new cells. I also happen to believe that hardware computers are very useful tools which can help to provide that nudge. That's why this newsletter is not just full of computer-related information, but also includes entertainment and educational items to tickle the brain cells. There's something of interest for everyone in here so feel free to share this issue and pass it along to your friends and family...

What's In Here?

Lots of cool, fun, and informative stuff every week!
I'm dubbing this week's issue the Andrew Carnegie Edition. On on this day in 1892, the State of Pennsylvania sent a band of 7000 troops to Homestead to "restore law and order" and thus end the labor strike against the Homestead Steel Mills owned by none other than Andrew Carnegie. Our Ctrl-Alt-Backspace section includes special click-links to transport you to educational and informational websites about Andrew Carnegie.

Montecito Drops on July 18

"We've known for a little while that Intel's next-generation Itanium2 part, Montecito, is due out in July, but now a specific ship date has surfaced: July 18th. Montecito began sampling way back in 2004, and when I saw an ISSCC presentation on it in early 2005, it was supposedly just around the corner back then. So after over a year's delay, I'm sure HP—the primary remaining vendor of Itanium2 systems— is ready to start selling systems." Click to read entire article...

Set It And Forget It Backup System
How would you like your Windows XP computer to shut down automatically after each scheduled night backup job?

What? You don't have a backup system? What if your PC's hard drive were to crash today? Can you afford to lose all your data and critical files?

I'm very excited to announce that I have successfully modified, tested and implemented a new backup system that performs the following sequential events...

1. Auto-scheduled full backup job once each week.
2. Auto-scheduled incremental backup job of changed files the remaining days.
3. Auto-generated email notification after each backup job has completed.
4. Automatically shuts down your computer after each backup job has completed.

Just imagine, you won't have to leave your PC turned on all night long for those long backup jobs that may take an hour or more. Plus you'll have peace of mind knowing that your PC isn't idling in an unattended state all night long and is securely shut down. You'll also save energy and reduce the risk of crashes due to power outages or other electrical events.

One of the major advantages my units have over the big guys is that mine can be later upgraded with even larger hard drives. We start with an 80 gigabyte hard drive unit and can assemble one with up to 400 gigabytes of backup space.

Email me if you'd like details about how I can put this "Set It and Forget It" backup system into place for you.  A complete turn-key backup system can be installed and configured in your home or office at very affordable prices.

Task Scheduler...
...is an awesome little program you can use to automate certain tasks or programs to run at an appointed time. You can find out more information about it from Linspire Linux at...

http://www.linspire.com/lindows_products_details.php?product_id=2829

Here's a great scenario in which I'm using Task Scheduler to make my cmputing life easier...

I use an external hard disk drive attached to my Windows XP computer, along with backup software, to backup my Linspire Linux PC critical working files from across the network.  Since I've already set up a DOS-based script that will automatically shutdown my Windows XP PC after the backup job has completed and sent my notification email, I also needed an easy way to automatically shutdown my Linspire Linux PC. Staying up until 1:00 am was not an option because a full backup job of all my critical files takes about three hours and I don't want to stay up just to click a shutdown button.

I had to come up with another solution so here's where Task Scheduler came to the rescue. All I had to do was install Task Scheduler from the Click and Run Warehouse using my CNR subscription and then l set it up to run the "shutdown" command at the appointed time.

Now my entire network is happy as each PC quietly goes about its business performing the full and incremental backup jobs and then gracefully shut themselves down each evening. All I have to do is check my email each morning to review the automatically generated email that indicates if my backup job that evening was successful.

Yes! I am a happy camper by bringing the best of both world's from Linspire Land and Windows Land to my computing environment. No more virus worries and complete automation in the backup world. Now excuse me while I devote time to more important issues, like finishing this week's newsletter.
