Welcome to another issue of our weekly newsletter!

Something for everyone.

No one can dispute that the human brain is the greatest computer of all time! But sometimes it requires a little nudge to grow new cells. I also happen to believe that hardware computers are very useful tools which can help to provide that nudge. That's why this newsletter is not just full of computer-related information, but also includes entertainment and educational items to tickle the brain cells. There's something of interest for everyone in here so feel free to share this issue and pass it along to your friends and family...

Yet Another Illegitimate Copy of Windows XP
Another pirated copy of Windows XP has surfaced in Kerrville and once again it appears that another customer has been robbed by an unscrupulous system builder. It's unethical, it's illegal, and it's robbery performed against Microsoft and most of all, it's robbery performed against the customer. The only way to legitimize your pirated copy is to shell out $149 to Microsoft for a new installation key and CD. So that makes twice you'll have been victimized. The first time when you paid for a pirated update and the second time when you'll have to pay for a legitimate installation key and CD.

Once Microsoft's update center detects that a copy of Windows XP is illegitimate, it will no longer be eligible for critical security updates and it will be more susceptible to virus, spyware, and hacker attacks. Wherever you purchase your PC from, insist that you receive the original installation disk and that you actually see the official Microsoft Certificate of Authenticity affixed to your PC. In an earlier issue I addressed
what you can do if you receive a pirated copy of Windows XP installed on your PC.

What To Do If You Suspect You Purchased Counterfeit Windows XP
The first thing you should do is check the following website to determine if your Windows XP is legitimate...

http://www.microsoft.com/resources/howtotell/ww/windows/default.mspx

If you determine that you were sold a counterfeit copy of Windows XP, then your next step is to return the product to your place of purchase and ask for a legitimate replacement product. If the vendor refuses to help you, ask for your money back, and find a legitimate dealer who will sell you legally licensed Microsoft products.

If the vendor refuses to give you a refund, report their actions to your local Consumer Affairs Office and the Better Business Bureau. In Kerrville, you can contact the Better Business Choices at 895-7778. You should also contact the Microsoft Piracy Hotline at 1-800-RU-LEGIT.  If you want to submit an anonymous report, you may do so using the web method at ...

http://www.microsoft.com/piracy/ReportingUs.mspx

Remember, if you have a counterfeit copy of Windows XP you may not be entitled to receive important security updates and patches.  This will make your computer more vulnerable to viruses, hackers, and other internet threats. Furthermore, if you did not receive an official Microsoft disk and Certificate of Authenticity along with your purchase, you will run into problems down the road if you ever need to repair or reinstall your Windows XP.

"The wonderful thing about plátanos (plantains) is that they truly are a versatile food. As a plátano ripens, its high starch content changes to sugar. Plátanos are good at any stage; it just depends on what you want to make. Plátanos are a relative of the banana, but are bigger, less sweet and need to be cooked before they are eaten. Plátanos also keep their shape when cooked, unlike bananas, which get mushy." Click to read entire article...
