another issue of our weekly newsletter!
No
one can dispute that the human brain is the greatest computer of all
time! But sometimes it requires a little nudge to grow new
cells. I also happen to
believe that hardware computers are very useful tools
which can
help to provide that nudge. That's why this
newsletter is not just full of computer-related information, but also
includes entertainment and educational items to tickle the brain cells.
There's something of interest for everyone in here so feel free to
share this issue and pass it along to your
friends and family...
What's In Here?

Hole in anti-spyware plan scares tech firms "Federal
legislation aimed at stopping computer spyware contains a loophole that
could give an advantage to the people who spread spyware. Bills in both
houses of Congress would allow mass marketers to sue anti-spyware
companies for stopping their spyware -- the very point of the
legislation." Click to read entire article... http://www.bizjournals.com/sanjose/stories/2006/03/06/story3.html

Test The Strength of Your Password How strong is your password? I
can't stress enough the importance of password security. You'd be
surprised to know how many people use the pets' names, kids' names,
streets they live on, or even just never change a temporary password
whose only intended purpose is to be easily remembered. Here is a web
page at Microsoft that will let you test how weak or how strong that
little "susie" or "fluffy" password really is... http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/privacy/password_checker.mspx
Access Manager "Access
Manager is a FREE software solution that keeps all your passwords in
one, simple to use list. It offers fast, easy and secure password
management. One 'Master Password' is all that is needed to access
all your passwords and private information." http://www.accessmanager.co.uk/
Check Your Brain Speed "The
Posit Science brain speed test measures auditory processing (listening)
speed—one of many measures of brain function. Auditory processing
speed is important because much of the information we receive each day
is communicated through sound, especially speech. The faster we can
take in information accurately, the better we can keep up with, respond
to and remember what we hear." Click to take test... http://www.positscience.com/programs/brainspeed.php

I Heard That FTP Is Not a Secure Method of File Transfer. That
is a true statement. The reason it's not secure is because it transmits
your username and password in the clear and not in an encrypted form.
This means that hackers using eavesdropping software might be able to
intercept your username and password resulting in a hack of your
website. Here are some simple rules when using FTP to upload or download files... 1. Don't use names and passwords you use for personal information sites.
2. Get in and get out! Use FTP sparingly by connecting only when necessary.
3. Use stronger passwords (see next tip below).
There
are some alternatives to use in both the Windows and Linux
environments. One of the best is what is called Secure Shell
(SSH) and is used as a secure method of connecting between
two computers. For Windows you might try WinSCP and
for Linux you might try gFTP.
Don't let the name of gFTP
fool you because it also includes options for switching into SSH mode.
Both WinSCP and gFTP support SSH for file transfers. Trust me, the
small learning curve is worth the peace of mind knowing that your
username and password are not being broadcast for the world of hackers
to sniff out. How Strong Is Your Password?I

the difference between hits and visits, then check out the Web Hosting

are many software products that spammers and bulk emailers use to
browse domain websites in order to automatically collect email
addresses from the underlying HTML. If you post your email address in
plain ascii format, these software products will automatically pick it
up and add it to a spam emailing list. This can result in a tremendous
increase of spam email that you have to deal with... http://www.bictx.com/encrypt.shtml
