Spam that delivers a pink slip
Cruel claim leads to covert keylogger installation
"Last week, a handful of employees at Dekalb Medical Center in Decatur, Ga., received e-mails saying they were being laid off. The subject line read "Urgent - employment issue," and the sender listed on the message was at dekalb.org, which is the domain the medical center uses. The e-mail contained a link to a Web site that claimed to offer career-counseling information. And so a few employees, concerned about their employment status and no doubt miffed about being laid off via e-mail, clicked on the link to learn more and unwittingly downloaded a keylogger program that was lurking at the site." New Mac "virus" is proof of concept that hysteria sells anti-virus software
"What is it about viruses that engenders so much hair tearing? Are you sick of hearing about how we're—the whole world of us—not prepared for the avian flu? A resurgence of Spanish Flu? This winter's flu-of-the-month (just four easy payments of $19.95!) The next Mac virus? PANIC!!!!!!!!!! So says the Mac mag-of-mags Macworld. Now, we're all supposed to run—not walk—out and buy anti-virus software because it's so necessary. I mean, six proof of concept viruses have been found since February. An outbreak of the Mac flu that will slice, dice, and cobblerify your Mac is imminent. After all, we're panicking." Click to read entire article...

How to Hack a Window XP Admin Password
I show you this only so you can see how simple some techniques are to hack your Windows XP computer. Do not try this on anyone else's PC because you alone will be responsible for any damage you might cause. Use your own PC as the test dummy during this short process and you'll get a feel for how important it is to keep your PC secured.Remember, any PC sitting out in the open with an inviting desktop GUI is a big, fat, vulnerable target . Furthermore,  if you choose to try this at home, Bright Ideas Computing WILL NOT be responsible for any damage YOU might cause to YOUR own PC. ...

Open a DOS command prompt and enter these exact commands:

cd\
cd\windows\system32
mkdir temphack
copy logon.scr temphack\logon.scr
copy cmd.exe temphack\cmd.exe
del logon.scr
rename cmd.exe logon.scr
exit

Now Windows will load an unprotected command prompt instead of the password protected screen saver. All that remains is to change the admin user's password with the following command from this unprotected command prompt.

net user password

If I am the admin user you would enter "net user tomas password" to reset the admin password to be "password". Now you can have full administrative access to the PC, complete your nefarious mission, and then copy the contents of temphack back into system32 to cover your tracks. The only symptom seen the next day will be that the administrator's password will not work. It will have to be reset from another account with administrator privileges.

So now you can see just how simple it can be to hack a Windows XP computer. Note that this hack requires the PC to be sitting in the open with an open GUI for someone to gain access to the command prompt in the first place. Keep your PCs password protected and put short time limits on the amount of time your PC is left unattended without a screensaver password.
