Something for everyone.

No one can dispute that the human brain is the greatest computer of all time! But sometimes it requires a little nudge to grow new cells. I also happen to believe that hardware computers are very useful tools which can help to provide that nudge. That's why this newsletter is not just full of computer-related information, but also includes entertainment and educational items to tickle the brain cells. There's something of interest for everyone in here so feel free to share this issue and pass it along to your friends and family...

What's In Here?

Lots of cool, fun, and informative stuff every week!

I'm dubbing this week's issue the President James A. Garfield Edition. On this day in 1831, future President James A. Garfield is born to an impoverished family near Cleveland, Ohio. He weighed a whopping 10 pounds at birth, was a voracious reader and, as a young boy, worked driving the teams of horses that pulled barges along canals.

Our Ctrl-Alt-Backspace section includes special click-links to transport you to educational and informational websites about President Garfield.

Which Windows When?
"Buying the Microsoft Windows OS used to be akin to buying a Model T Ford – you could have it painted any color you wanted, as long as it was black. You couldn’t buy “Windows 95 Souped-up Version,” or “Windows Me Stripped-down and Less Expensive Version.” Variety was lacking. Microsoft’s newest OS, Windows Vista, was released to manufacturing (RTM) on Nov. 8, meaning it should be in the hands of volume customers by the end of November and consumers by Jan. 30, 2007." FTC Raises Fist Against ERG Ventures
Think twice before downloading that cool screensaver...
"ERG and the affiliate were ordered by the U.S. District Court for the District of Nevada to stop distributing false and misleading software.  The FTC claims that users who download ERG’s screensavers, videos, or other speciously “clean” software, are tricked into also downloading spyware without their knowledge." Microsoft to indemnify Red Hat users?
"Following the controversial patent indemnification agreement between Microsoft and Novell last week, Microsoft representatives expressed interest in creating similar deals with other major Linux distributors. The patent agreement, which has become a source of much controversy within the open source community, is an unusual cross-licensing arrangement. Novell pays Microsoft a royalty fee, and in return the Redmond software giant agrees not to sue any of Novell's customers." Click to read entire article...

Yep! Your computer's hard drive IS going to crash. It's only a matter of time because the older your PC becomes, the higher the chances your hard drive will crash. It's also true that the older your PC becomes, the more valuable your data files tend to become. Have you backed up your critical files, images, email, address book, and music?
