Welcome to
another issue of our weekly newsletter!
Something
for everyone.
No
one can dispute that the human brain is the greatest computer of all
time! But sometimes it requires a little nudge to grow new
cells. I also happen to
believe that hardware computers are very useful tools
which can
help to provide that nudge. That's why this
newsletter is not just full of computer-related information, but also
includes entertainment and educational items to tickle the brain cells.
There's something of interest for everyone in here so feel free to
share this issue and pass it along to your
friends and family...
What's In Here?
Lots of cool,
fun, and
informative stuff every week!

I'm dubbing this
week's issue
the Katharine Hepburn Edition.
On this day in 1907, Katharine Hepburn is born in Hartford,
Connecticut. The daughter of New England intellectuals who stressed
rigorous exercise and independent thinking, Hepburn studied at Bryn
Mawr College in Pennsylvania and went on to become a stage actress. Our Ctrl-Alt-Backspace
section includes special click-links to
transport you
to educational and informational websites
about Katharine Hepburn.

RIAA defendant argues damages are excessive
"A defendant in one of the RIAA's
many file-sharing lawsuit will be able to argue that the damages sought
by the RIAA are unconstitutionally excessive. The defendant in
question, Marie Lindor, was sued by Universal Music Group in early 2006
as part of the RIAA's legal campaign against file sharing. In all of
the cases that have made it to court so far, the RIAA has sought
statutory damages of $750 per song shared, an amount Lindor believes is
excessive." Click to read entire article...

Space-Based Sun-Shade Concept a Bright Idea
By Bill Christensen
"In the past year, I've covered two
different proposals on using space technology to create some sort of
"shade" for the entire planet that would save us from global warming.
In covering those stories, words like "radical" and even "outlandish"
seemed appropriate." Click to read entire artcle...

Windows XP Speed Tip
Windows XP keeps a record of every file on the hard disk just to make
for faster searches. The downside is that by indexing all files on the
hard disk, other normal file commands like open, close, minimize, etc,
will be slower. If you don't find yourself making a lot of searches on
your hard drive then you may want to consider turning this feature off.

Plain women know more about men than beautiful ones do.
~ Katharine Hepburn (May 12, 1907 – June 29, 2003)
Sometimes I wonder if men and women really
suit each other. Perhaps they should live next door and just
visit now and then.
~ Katharine Hepburn (May 12, 1907 – June 29, 2003)
I never realized until lately that women were supposed to be the inferior sex.
