Something for everyone.

No one can dispute that the human brain is the greatest computer of all time! But sometimes it requires a little nudge to grow new cells. I also happen to believe that hardware computers are very useful tools which can help to provide that nudge. That's why this newsletter is not just full of computer-related information, but also includes entertainment and educational items to tickle the brain cells. There's something of interest for everyone in here so feel free to share this issue and pass it along to your friends and family...

What's In Here?

Lots of cool, fun, and informative stuff every week!

I'm dubbing this week's issue the Orson Welles Edition. On this day in 1938, Orson Welles scared the bejesus out of everyone with his radio broadcast of The War of The Worlds. It since has been made into quite a few movies and is still a Halloween favorite of mine. Our Ctrl-Alt-Backspace section includes special click-links to transport you to educational and informational websites about Orson Welles.

The Credit Card Prank
"Every time you make a credit card purchase, they're supposed to match your signature against the one on the back of your card. Nobody seems to check anymore, so I tried to see how far I could push it with wacky signatures like Mariah Carey and Zeus." Click to read entire prank...

"Dogs were probably the first tame animals. They have accompanied humans for some 10,000 years. Some scientists assert that all dogs, domestic and wild, shared a common ancestor in the small South Asian wolf." Click to read entire article...

Before You Give Away Your Old PC
"When you get a new computer, odds are that you don't simply throw away your old one. You may tuck it away in the closet, or set it up elsewhere in the house as a "backup" PC but never use it. If you keep up with the cutting edge, you might have two or three unused PCs gathering dust. You may have considered giving your old PC away to a family member, or perhaps to someone who can't afford a new computer (needy students are everywhere), but wondered if it was really worth it, given that you can buy a new Dell for $299. Well, be assured that a working PC, even if a bit old, is a valuable commodity, and you can increase its value with a little work." Click to read entire article...
