IMPORTANT
NOTE: We
decided to make PhpDig available for free to all of our
domain hosting clients but without technical support. We find
this helps to keep your hosting fees as low as possible. But
you can submit a Level-1 Technical Support question at http://www.bictx.com/level1/ or call us at 830-895-5016 if you want contract us to install it or perform customized changes to PhpDig.
Adding
a search feature can enhance the look and feel of your
website and make it more convenient for your viewers to find your documents. Here are some basic instructions to get you
started using PhpDig Search Engine.
1. Please CLICK HERE to
read our disclaimer before getting started. Be sure to read through
this entire article before you actually start and if you DO NOT feel comfortable performing these steps, then STOP and DO NOT PROCEED any further.
2. Use the following link to "Plesk Control Panel Login" if you do not know how to access your account. Login as a "domain administrator" and then return to this article to continue with Step 3 below...
3. Use the following link to the "Using the Domain Application Vault"
chapter of the Plesk Domain Users Guide and then follow the
instructions to install PhpDig Search Engine from the Application
Vault...
You will also find detailed help instructions located in the "Help & Support" links of each Control Panel screen after you log into your account.
4. After you have installed PhpDig Search Engine, you will need to add a "search"
form and button to your website page. You can insert and modify the
following simple code into your website page in order to generate a
simple search button...
5.
Now you will need to login to your PhpDig Administrator Panel in order
to "index" your website into the PhpDig database. Open the PhpDig admin
panel with your browser by visiting "http://www.yourdomain.com/phpdig/admin/index.php" and then enter the username and password you set when you installed PhpDig from your Application Vault.
6.
Once you've logged into the admin panel, you'll need to enter one
link per line in the text box shown below. You can create simple links
such as "http://www.domain.com" or you can include path and file information to make your links look like "http://www.domain.com/dir/" or "http://www.domain.com/dir/filename.ext".
7. The "search depth"
option tells PhpDig how far to index into the URL you set earlier. The
starting URL you entered earlier represents a depth of zero and
is the starting page for indexing. Any links from the
starting page to other pages are will be represented by a depth of
"1" and so on. The "links per" option tells PhpDig how many links for each depth to index. Setting your "search depth"
to zero will index just one page regardless of the "links per" value.
You will have to experiment with these values to get it just right for
your file structure.
8. Click the "Dig this!"
button and wait until the indexing process has completed. Remember that
you will have to reindex again after you add more content to your
website.
9. Finally, you will find additional documentation sources at these websites...
You
may contract us separately if you require additional help or
customization features and we'll be happy to write a technical article
for you or perform the customizations for a small fee.
